Chuck Roth (fka watergh0st), has been building a cult following since his affiliation with Lil Peep and the Soundcloud communities of the late 2010’s. “Apathy,” originally released in 2015, is still an active single with over 150k streams on Soundcloud and 350K streams on Spotify.
Since his more electronic-centered releases pre-pandemic, he’s begun to spotlight his (already extremely well-developed) guitar abilities more in his music. While the colors and tones of Blood Girl and Chuck’s following singles are present, his new single “Tallulah” follows a stronger indie-rock/jazz fusion/post-punk sound.
Chuck is a master guitar player who brings fluidity and drama to the instrument. Atop these textures, his voice floats and weaves and darts. The sound leaves an impression somewhere between Joni Mitchell and Arthur Russell. The lyrics seduce you to listen closer, as Chuck’s voice is just audible enough to be fully present.
